All visitors 18 years
or older are required to present a valid Department of Motor
Vehicles (D.M.V.) picture ID, drivers license, military ID,
Passport or other acceptable ID. All visitors under the age
of 18 must be accompanied by a parent or legal guardian.
How to Schedule a Visit:

General population inmates are allowed one 25-minute visit
per week by appointment.
Workforce and Trustee Inmates receive two 55-minute visits
per week by appointment.
A maximum of three visitors are allowed for each inmate,
this includes juveniles.
Dress Code for Visitation:
Individuals entering the Correctional Center for visitation
are required to follow certain dress code
requirements. Visitors may dress casually, so long as they
are dressed appropriately. The Virginia Beach Sheriff’s
Office reserves the right to refuse admittance based on

Clothing should not be see-through or revealing.
Hems and slits should not exceed 4” above mid-knee.
Halter tops, tank tops and tube tops are not permitted.
Undergarments are required.
No pocketbooks or handbags are allowed in the visitation
Clergy are permitted during regular visiting hours if they
are on the inmate’s approved visitation list. They must make
an appointment at least 24 hours in advance.
All attorneys and associates, pretrial officers,
probation/parole officers and bond representatives have no
restrictions if conducting official business.
Emergency visit requests and/or emergency messages may be
arranged through the duty Watch Commander or higher
authority after verification of the emergency. The Chaplain
or Watch Commander will verify the emergency. If you have an
emergency request you may contact the Watch Commander’s
office at 757-385-4915.

Where is visitation?
The Visitation Lobby is located at 2501 James Madison Blvd.
in Virginia Beach. The entrance is off Nimmo Parkway facing
the Virginia Beach Courthouse.
What to expect when you arrive?
Visitors are asked to arrive at least 15 minutes prior
to their appointment time so they can be checked in and
ready to begin their visit. Visits start promptly at the
scheduled time and end at the scheduled time. Visitors
arriving 15 minutes or later for their appointment will be
required to reschedule.
The Virginia Beach Sheriff’s Office conducts on-site video
visitation only. All visitors are subject to search. Once
you have cleared security, you will be directed to the video
visitation room. A visitation clerk or deputy will point you
to a terminal that has been assigned for your visit. Each
terminal has a small video camera, a video screen and a hand
receiver. When the visit begins the camera and screen will
turn on and you will be able to see your loved one. You will
be able to speak with your loved one by using the telephone
receiver at your terminal.
Cellphones and purses are not permitted in the visitation
area. If you would like to bring these items into the
facility you will have to store them in a locker during your
