Hiring Off-Duty Deputies

Services Provided:

The Virginia Beach Sheriff’s Office has contracted with Off Duty Management (ODM) to assist with our external extra-duty program effective 08/19/2024. In short, ODM will provide our agency with complete extra-duty administration, including scheduling, invoicing, collections, and payroll. Off Duty Management uses its web-based software and mobile app, OfficerTRAK®, to manage and distribute extra-duty jobs to deputies.

Here’s what you can expect when working with Off Duty Management.

• An OfficerTRAK® online account for your organization that allows you to:
  • Create service requests
  • Full liability coverage for the customer, agency and deputy
  • View fill status of requested shifts
  • View deputy clocking times
  • Post orders and instructions
  • View past and future shift information
  • Make payments online  
  • Organizations that have recurring off-duty deputies can establish an account and schedule billing cycles with Off-Duty Management. 
• Full liability coverage for your company and the deputies working at your request 
• Accessible customer services 24/7/365 and support at 757-242-7081 (toll-free)
• A dedicated Service & Support associate familiar with our agency to answer your questions

Prohibited Services:

• Serving as a private body guard or bouncer at an event
• Serving as a process server, bill collector, bail bond agent, repossession agent or in any other situation they may be asked to use their arrest/law enforcement authority for non-criminal justice purposes.
• Serving as an investigator of any kind.
• Providing security to a private party. 
• Providing law enforcement or security-related services to any employer or establishment whose primary business is towing or requires a taxi permit.
• Working at massage parlors, pawnshops, cannibals manufacture/sale establishments or sex-oriented business, 
• Working for any business or event whose primary function is gambling, except for bingo fundraisers.

Rates

• There is a three-hour minimum per request.
• Supervisor Rate: A supervisor is needed when 5 or more deputies are present.
• Holiday Rate applies to the following holidays: New Year's Eve, New Year's Day, MLK Day, Thanksgiving Day, Christmas Eve, Christmas Day.
• Emergency Rate: If a request is received less than 48 hours prior to the shift, the emergency rate pay will be in effect.

Cancellation Policy

Vendor cancelling or reducing an assignment within 24 hours of the start of the assignment shall pay the 3-hour minimum fee.
