VIRGINIA BEACH, VA – The Virginia Beach Sheriff's Office (VBSO) is excited to announce its inaugural Youth Football Camp, hosted by Sheriff Rocky Holcomb and local legend Coach Elisha “Cadillac” Harris. This free, three-day camp will teach fundamental football skills, foster positive relationships between youth and law enforcement, and provide a memorable summer experience for rising sixth-, seventh-, and eighth-graders.
The camp will take place from Thursday, July 24, to Saturday, July 26, at Green Run High School. Each day, participants will receive expert coaching, take part in drills designed to enhance their skills, and enjoy complimentary lunch and drinks. Register online. People will be able to register before the camp begins each day, as well.
"We are committed to investing in our youth, and this football camp is a fantastic way to do that,” Holcomb said. “It’s an opportunity for young people to learn valuable skills, build teamwork, and connect with positive role models in a fun and supportive environment. We are particularly honored to partner with Coach Harris, whose dedication to our community and unparalleled knowledge of the game will make this a truly impactful experience for every kid."
The camp will highlight Harris’s illustrious career that spans over 40 years as an educator and coach, including being the first Black football coach in Virginia Beach (hired at Green Run High School). Last August, Green Run debuted the Elisha “Cadillac” Harris Stadium in his honor. In addition to his coaching expertise, Harris equips his players with lifelong tools for success. This includes bringing in former football players who have had successful careers as lawyers, CEOs and more to speak to campers.
Harris's deep roots in the local football community also mean he brings a vast network of connections. Campers will benefit from possible appearances by and mentorship from his colleagues, including other local coaches and former NFL players whom he has coached or worked alongside. This unique access to top-tier talent and experience will provide an unparalleled learning opportunity for the aspiring young athletes.
"I'm thrilled to be a part of this inaugural camp with Sheriff Holcomb and the Virginia Beach Sheriff's Office," Harris said. "Football teaches discipline, perseverance and teamwork – qualities that are essential for success in life. I look forward to sharing my knowledge and passion for the game with these young athletes and helping to shape their future, both on and off the field, alongside some of the incredible individuals I've had the privilege of working with over the years."
