Personal Inmate Mail Going Digital Beginning July 27, 2026

Beginning July 27, 2026, all personal mail sent to inmates at the Virginia Beach Correctional Center by family and friends — including letters, photographs, and drawings — will be delivered electronically through the inmate tablet's Facility Messages app under the free profile.

New Mailing Address for Personal Mail

Beginning July 27, all personal mail should be addressed as follows:

Virginia Beach Correctional Center
Inmate's Full Name, Inmate Identifier (OMS number)
P.O. Box 247
Phoenix, MD 21131

Example

Virginia Beach Correctional Center
John Smith, #11111
P.O. Box 247
Phoenix, MD 21131

Important Mailing Instructions

To ensure mail is delivered electronically, please include:

  • The complete facility name (no abbreviations) and state
  • The inmate's full name and inmate identifier
  • The sender's full name and physical mailing address
  • Only personal mail such as letters, photographs, and drawings

Please Note

  • Continue to follow Virginia Beach Correctional Center procedures for sending checks, money orders, and attorney-client privileged mail
  • Do not send checks, money orders, or attorney-client privileged mail to the Phoenix, Md., address.

Scam Alert

Just say “NO!” to scammers pretending to be from the Virginia Beach Sheriff’s Office! This scam has been ongoing for years, and perpetrators often use the names of real deputies. They ask for money over the phone or request that you meet in our parking lot to give them money in person (do not do this!). They’ll say you must pay to prevent being arrested for missed jury duty or some other reason. This is a lie! We will NEVER ask you to pay money to avoid arrest.
