All proceeds benefit VB Education Foundation Beach Bags program
VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. - The Virginia Beach Sheriff’s Office (VBSO) invites the community to join us for a day of family, fun and football for a great cause during Sheriff Rocky Holcomb’s 3rd Annual Turkey Bowl, kicking off Saturday, Nov. 1, at Ocean Lakes High School.
This friendly yet fierce flag football showdown pits Team Public Safety (VBSO deputies, Virginia Beach Police officers and other first responders) against Team Education (educators, coaches and staff from Virginia Beach City Public Schools, including Superintendent Donald Robertson). The series is currently tied 1–1, and both sides are hungry for victory — and for the chance to help feed students in need.
Saturday, Nov. 1, 2025
Ocean Lakes High School (885 Schumann Drive, Virginia Beach)
Gates open at 10 a.m. | Kickoff at 11 a.m.
Admission is $5 (cash or via Venmo @VBSheriff_CommunityFund) at the gate or in advance. All proceeds, including concession and raffle sales, benefit the Virginia Beach Education Foundation’s Beach Bags program, which provides take-home meal bags to students who might otherwise go hungry on weekends and school breaks.
In just two years, the Turkey Bowl has raised more than $7,600 for the Beach Bags program — helping ensure no child goes hungry when schools are closed.
Last school year (2024-25), the Beach Bags initiative distributed 45,000 meal bags to students at an average cost of $5 per bag, each filled with 10 shelf-stable food items. Since 2019, both the cost per bag and the demand have more than doubled, highlighting the growing need for community support.
This year’s Turkey Bowl will feature:
- A competitive flag football game featuring local heroes and educators.
- An inspiring opening ceremony featuring the VBSO Honor Guard with local ROTC teenagers, a National Anthem tribute with a saxophone accompaniment.
- Halftime performances by cheerleaders and dancers.
- Concessions, Turkey Bowl T-shirts and a 50/50 raffle.
“This event is a perfect example of what community partnership looks like,” said Sheriff Rocky Holcomb. “Every dollar raised helps put food in the hands of children who need it most. Team Education better bring their A-game — Team Public Safety is ready to reclaim the trophy!”
