Splash into Summer

VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. - The Virginia Beach Sheriff's Office has rescheduled its first “Splash into Summer” event at Ocean Breeze Waterpark with students from Birdneck Elementary School, W.T. Cooke Elementary School and An Achievable Dream Academy at Seatack Elementary School to Monday, July 15, from 4-7 p.m.

VBSO Engages Community with Free Event

The event was postponed due to inclement weather last month. It is part of the VBSO’s ongoing community engagement efforts and will be free for students, their parents or guardians, and teachers.

“Nothing says summer like a day at the water park, and working with Ocean Breeze we want to ensure that these kids have the opportunity to experience this summertime tradition,” said Virginia Beach Sheriff Rocky Holcomb. “We’re excited to treat these students to a day at Ocean Breeze filled with swimming, prizes, food and family-friendly fun. Let’s ‘Splash into Summer’ and make lasting memories with family, friends and the VBSO.”

“Splash into Summer” is part of an ongoing initiative by Holcomb to foster positive relationships between the community and law enforcement through events such as his “Easter Eggstravaganza” and “Turkey Bowl,” which raised money for Virginia Beach City Public Schools’ Beach Bags program. Each school year, VBSO deputies volunteer at local elementary schools mentoring, tutoring, reading and eating lunch with students. These interactions form lasting bonds and create positive role models for the kids.

In addition to donating 150 tickets, Ocean Breeze has reserved part of a pavilion where the kids, their chaperones and teachers can enjoy some shade and refreshments. The VBSO will also be raffling off door prizes, including bikes and other raffle prizes. Local VIPs will also be present to interact with the students. There is no rain date for this rescheduled event.

“Thank you to Ocean Breeze and our sponsors for making this event possible,” Holcomb said. “Grab your swimsuit and we’ll see you at the water park!”
